Food Truck Rally – Prospect Park, Brooklyn

I wasn’t aware that the NYC Food Truck Association was working with the Prospect Park Alliance to hold a Food Truck Rally every third Sunday from April through October.

I found out serendipitously (my favorite way) when I went to run a lap at Prospect Park last Sunday and saw a couple of food trucks just setting up.

Can you sense the excitement in this shot? I was so happy to see food trucks before starting my run!

I had my eyes set on a favorite sandwich from the Red Hook Lobster Pound and was ecstatic to see their truck parked at the Grand Army Plaza.

The Red Hook Lobster Truck!

I was so happy to see the rest of the trucks gathered outside the park when I was done with my run. They started piling up and by the time they were all done setting up, there were 16 trucks on site, including the following:

Coolhaus
Cupcake Crew
Frites & Meats
Gorilla Cheese
Kimchi Taco Truck
Mexicue NYC
Pera Turkish Tacos
Red Hook Lobster
Vanleeuwen Ice Cream
Wafels & Dinges

Sixteen trucks graced the Food Truck Rally last Sunday.

After a brief deliberation, a decision was made to try something new, particularly where our friends were already in front of the line đŸ™‚ Kimchi Taco Truck delivered two plates of goodness: beef and pork tacos, and spicy rice rolls. How comforting was it to find Korean-esque food among the selections?

The day’s winner of my affections was the Kimchi Taco Truck.

Spicy rice rolls.

After lunch we headed over to Cool Haus and had a nice ice cream sandwich. The varieties stuck on the side of the truck are the cookie and ice cream flavors you can choose from. They have cookies ranging from chocolate chip, peanut butter, and red velvet, and ice cream flavors such as browned butter and bacon, and fried chicken and waffles! Excellent idea.

Our choice – chocolate chip cookie with browned butter and bacon ice cream.

Others in our group opted for a waffle from the Wafels and Dinges Truck. Yum.

Kanannie‘s choice: Liege waffle with Spekuloos sauce and strawberries.

I love food trucks. It’s a great and creative twist to New York City dining. It must be so challenging to serve great food at affordable prices from such a small and portable space. I particularly enjoy the surprise element of it all, seeing a truck on my block would totally make my day đŸ˜€ If you do need to locate them to satisfy a craving, all of them post their locations via their websites and Twitter.

Future dates for the Prospect Park Food Truck Rally are as follows:

May 27
June 17
July 15
August 19
September 16
October 21

Trucks serve food from 11-5 every third Sunday (except May – it will be on the 27th instead of the 20th) from April through October. Hope to catch you there!
